Nikolaus Scheffel is responsible for the EU law research track of the Executive Master in EU Studies as well as the Advanced course „EU citizenship - a constitutional status of fundamental rights, economic freedom and solidarity" (together with Ralf Kanitz).
He studied German, European and International law in Berlin and London. He worked as a research fellow and lecturer at the chair for Public and European law (Prof. Dr. Christian Calliess) at Freie Universität Berlin, where he also obtained a PhD on European Defence Integration. Since 2020, he is a legal officer in the European Policy department of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs. He is currently one of the national agents before the Court of Justice of the European Union, representing the Federal Government in all European Law cases before the Court.
