Executive Master in EU Studies: Programme Structure

The Executive Master in EU Studies is a two-year programme that take place online and on-site. Our e-campus combines online courses, moderated fora, webinars and instructional videos.
The learning experience is enhanced through eight weekend workshops in various European cities. The Master is designed for professionals who wish to study part-time while pursuing their careers.

Year One

During the first academic year (three study terms), students take interdisciplinary compulsory and elective courses focusing on the fundamentals of European studies such as:

  • History of European Integration
  • EU Institutional Architecture
  • The EU in World Politics 
  • EU Law
  • Enlargement of the EU 
  • Sustainable Development & Green Deal
  • Political Economy of Energy Transitions
  • Lobbying and Advocacy

Students also acquire skills and competences that are useful for their professional careers, including:

  • Negotiating within an international context
  • Drafting reports, position papers and policy briefs
  • Presentation skills
  • Working with media and journalists (press releases, information cycle)
  • Writing legal opinions and writs.

 A course on the Fundamentals of Scientific Work gives an introduction to academic research and writing.


Year Two

The second year combines advanced courses in Political Science, Economics and EU Law. At the end of the first term, students specialise in one of these three academic disciplines by opting for: 

  • either the research track: focus on improving research and methodology, leading to a Master thesis
  • or the professional track: focus on enhancing skills and competences for the labour market, leading to the drafting of a final paper.

All students take a course in Skills and Competences where they can choose among the following courses:

  • Project Cycle Management and Logical Framework Approach: Learn to plan, propose and manage an international project
  • Evaluation of EU programmes: Learn how to plan, implement and evaluate development programmes within the European Union
