Workshop in Brussels

A very intensive and dynamic weekend workshop in Brussels brought the first year of the Executive Master to a close.

The students were given an insight into European decision-making with insider tips on the working of the institutions during a tour of the European quarter. Next, at the European Parliament, the students met Doris Dialer, Attachée for Health and Consumer Protection at the Permanent Representation of Austria to the EU, and Margarethe Richter, Head of Office at the European Parliament. A lunch and talk session with Julien Bocquet and colleagues at MCI Brussels provided a glimpse at EU lobbying, managing EU events and careers outside the institutions.
On the following day, the students took part in a simulation of a European Council summit, to prepare and negotiate a declaration thanks to the guidance of Eva Gertz and Stephan Naumann from planpolitik. Whilst the students reached an agreement on EU social policy and strengthening European defence, they were unable to unite around a single declaration on enlargement.

The students were given a taster of what to expect in the second year with some of our experts, including Emre Gur, Gyöngyvér Gyene, Ralf M Kanitz, Tamás Szigetvári and Thomas Traguth.

Thank you to our experts and students - we look forward to seeing you again for the next workshop in October in Vienna!
