What does CIFE stand for?

The Jean Monnet Action supports six institutions that contribute each in a specific way to the European Integration process through their activities in the field of education and training. One of these institutions is CIFE, the Centre International de Formation Europeenne. It was founded in 1954 and has its headquarter in Nice (France).

CIFE’s objective is to conduct education and training activities, studies and research concerning European unification, world unification, federalism, regionalism and changes within the structures of contemporary society.

The activities carried out by CIFE in the frame of its objetives include long-term programmes (European online academy, M.A in European and International Studies, EU evening courses), summer universities, seminars (for students/teachers), conferences and publications.

When is the next deadline for application?

The application deadline for the academic year 2012-2013 is on the 5th of September 2012.

Where and how can I apply?

The academic year 2012-2013 will start on the 15th of October 2012. If you are interested in taking part in the EOA 2012-2013, please apply via our online application form and keep in mind the application deadline (see above).

How much does it cost?

The participation fee is 3.600 euro for the one-year programme Certificate in EU Studies Online and 7200 euro for the two-year Master's degree programme Master in EU Studies Online.
This amount covers the educational and technical support, the use of the special internet workspace and board and lodging during all workshops. Travel costs shall be paid by the participants.

Are there any preconditions for admission? What is the selection procedure?

You have to have a general background in EU affairs and a university degree (B.A. level).

In order to participate in the 2nd year of the Master programme (Master in EU Studies Online) you must have been awarded 30 ECTS. The ECTS must have been awarded through the study of contents and goals relevant to the programme.

You have to pay the participation fee.

What are the conditions and requirements for obtaining the certificate and the Master's degree?

How many courses do I need to take to be eligible for the Certificate and the Master's degree?

For the Certificate:

You have to take three courses in the first and two courses in the second and third trimester. At least 7 courses in total.

Does CIFE offer any scholarships?

A limited number of scholarships of is available to reduce the financial burden of the course fees:

  • 1.000 euro, 2.000 euro and 3.600 euro for the Certificate in EU Studies Online (one-year programme).
  • 2000 euro, 3600 euro and 4800 euro for the Master in EU Studies Online (two-year programme)

The amount granted depends on the individual student's financial situation.

What are the eligibility criteria for a scholarship?

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need.

Applicants shall demonstrate that they have the potential to achieve and to benefit from engaging in the European Online Academy.

Applicants who gain the required standard of academic qualifications will be asked to complete and sign an electronic form, declaring their eligibility for a scholarship. Evidence of eligibility will be required at registration.

How long is the first academic year?

The academic year starts on the 15th of October of each year and ends at the beginning of July of the following one.

Which institution is issuing the certificate?

The certificate is issued by CIFE and signed by the Director General of CIFE and by Jean-Monnet-Professor W. Wessels from the University of Cologne. The European Online Academy is organised with the financial support of the European Commission.

Do you work with ECTS-points?

Yes. 24 ECTS*-credits are awarded for the successful completion of the academic year; participants can collect up to 36 ECTS-credits by choosing additional courses. Please note: In order to participate in the 2nd year of the programme Master in EU Studies Online participants have to collect 30 ECTS during the first year.
* The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a student-centred system based on the student workload required to achieve the objectives of a programme, objectives preferably specified in terms of the learning outcomes and competences to be acquired.

Cancellation Policy and Administrative Costs

Is there a cancellation procedure?

Yes, there is.
If the applicant communicates his/her decision to leave the Online Academy before October 15th, 50% of the participation fee will be paid back by CIFE.

If the decision is taken after December 15th, no refund is foreseen by CIFE.

 

Are there administrative costs?

Yes, there are.

The administrative costs amount to 200 euro, i.e. in case the participant does not participate in one of the programmes, an administrative fee of 200 euro will be kept by CIFE in order to cover the administrative costs of the application procedure.
