Dr.-Ing. Ingeborg Niestroy

Ingeborg Niestroy has been Secretary General of the network of European Environment and Sustainable Development Advisory Councils (EEAC, www.eeac-net.org) since 1999, and has contributed to the work on the EU- and national sustainable development strategies and impact assessment, as well as selected policy fields such as agriculture, energy and marine environment. Previously she performed comparative research on Strategic Environmental Assessment in Germany and California, and received a Doctor of Engineering degree from Berlin Technical University, Faculty of Environment and Society (2000). She also has practical experience as project manager in environmental impact assessments and other planning fields.

She is author of Sustaining Sustainability - a benchmark study on national strategies towards sustainable development and the impact of councils in nine EU member states (2005), co-editor of Environmental Governance in Europe (2003) and has published several articles on SD strategies, the role of councils in policy advice and SD strategies and on impact assessment.

Her main research fields are sustainable development strategies, governance issues and impact assessment.
