First Year

  4. The European Economic and Monetary Union and the Stability and Growth Pact (SGP).

III. Optional and compulsory courses (third term: 03 April - 26 June 2009)

  1. Interest representation in the EU;
  2. Justice and Home Affairs in the EU;
  3. Economic challenges for the enlarged EU;
  4. Sustainable Development in the EU

IV. Additional Offers

Additional special-focus lectures by experts or by officials will be offered during the workshops in Berlin, Rome, Budapest and Brussels. For example following topics could be presented: EU and its Neighbours Regions and communities in EU...

  • simulations of international and intercultural negotiations;
  • inter-cultural communication;
  • advanced e-learning skills.

Second year (June 2009 - June 2010)

I. Annual academic courses in the core subjects of the Master programme:

Economics, Political Sciences and EU Law.

Political Sciences:

Based on the foundational course "Institutional Architecture of the EU" of the practical aimed first year the second year will focus on the theories and strategies of European integration. Theories of European integration will provide a sound basis for analysing strategies and concepts of European integration and the development of the institutional architecture.

EU Law:

The course will deal with theoritical aspects of legal integration in Europe, as well as substantive topics in EU law more in detail. Master students will carry out in-depth analyses of the five topics that have in part already been delt with briefly in the first year. These subjects range from constitutional/structural questions, such as the relationship between national and European (constitutional) law, and a legal appraisal of the Lisbon Treaty, to recent developments in substantive European law, e.g. the law of external relations of the EU and the four freedoms.

Economics:

The course on "The European Union in a globalized world" will be characterized by the following features: strategic thinking, future-oriented approach, balanced mixture of theory and policy-orientedness, comparative analysis, and as far as necessary interdisciplinary approach .

II. Methodological Seminars

The participants will have to take part to one methodological seminar proposed (in one of the three core subjects).

III. Additional Offers

Interdisciplinary work during the workshops and additional offers in accordance to the special interest of the participants.

IV. Master Thesis

The final paper must be written in one of the core subjects and have to be submitted by June 2010.
